Professor Hausermann MBE Lectures

Rights and Humanity Public Lecture Series
Between 4 May – 29 June 2011, Rights and Humanity held a public lecture series at Rights and Humanity's International Centre in Human Rights and Responsibilities, led by our Founder and President, Professor Julia Hausermann MBE.

The first in the series was entitled 'The Human Rights Approach to Development', held on Wednesday 4 May 2011, 6.00pm – 7.30pm.

Professor Julia Häusermann MBE, LLB, LLM, Barrister-at-Law, is the Founder and President of Rights and Humanity. An international human rights lawyer and advocate, Professor Häusermann has been working in the field of humanitarian relief, human rights and development for over 30 years. Professor Häusermann has played a key role in developing UN, inter-governmental and governmental policies on human rights and development. Her research interests include: human rights, health, development and the right to water.

The Human Rights Approach to Development, pioneered by Rights and Humanity, is now adopted by UN agencies and Development Organisations worldwide. Evaluations show this approach is highly effective, saving and bettering the lives of millions of people. This lecture will demonstrate how a human rights approach and a focus on shared values and responsibilities can turn the vicious cycle of discrimination, lack of opportunity and poverty into a virtuous cycle of equality, empowerment and social cohesion.
